Throughout the year, we Romanists have many feast days. Many of them are to commemorate the great Saints and Sages in the golden chain of our tradition.
While we say it is a feast, that doesn’t necessarily mean a grand celebration is required on every feast day. Here are a few ways to spend your feast day honoring the Saints and the Gods.
Ritual
Adding the honored individual of the feast day to your morning and evening prayer rituals is a great way to show appreciation on their feast day. This can include a prayer to them and a simple lighting of incense.
Prayer to the Saint
Prayers are a powerful means of connection to the divine. For example, Plotinus was well known for taking in children as orphans throughout his life. A prayer to Him and for the welfare of orphans would be an appropriate way to honor him on His feast day.
Share Stories and Sacred Texts
We have many biographies of the ancient sages. Sharing a story from their life and reading it aloud can bring us closer to them. In addition, we may read one of their primary works, like one of Plotinus’ Enneads.
Celebration
There is no limit on how we can honor the Saints. Grand feasts and celebrations are allowed and will vary from community to community. The important part is to keep the memory of these individuals in our hearts and minds and remember their contribution to our spiritual development and liberation.
