Hymn of the Nones
Bacchus, Liberator, on Nones day,
In thy revelry, our spirits pray.
With the grape's nectar, and the dance's trance,
Thy joyous influence, in every glance.
-
On Nones, when the moon's glow is bright,
Bacchus, we honor in the soft moonlight.
In the vineyard's bounty, thy blessings flow,
Liberator of souls, in thy ecstatic glow.
-
Thy presence unbinds the chains of the soul,
In Nones' celebration, where passion unfolds.
Bacchus, on this day, with a festive cheer,
Liberate our hearts, draw us near.
-
As the month unfurls, in Bacchus' embrace,
In the sacred dance, we find our place.
Bacchus, Liberator, thy spirit we invoke,
In the revelry of life, in each Nones stroke.
Daily Meditation
"If one shuts his eyes to the things of the senses and tries to see with his mind’s eye, and if one turns from the flesh to the inner self, the soul, there he will see God and know God.”
—Celsus
We can find God within our souls whenever we take the time to turn inward and seek Him. To do so, we must turn away from our senses and bring awareness into our souls and inner selves. When we hold our focus on that inner self, we find a deep well of stillness in the quiet of the soul. If we keep plunging deeper and deeper into that stillness, we can see and know God. The pathway of ascesis combines many techniques that can bring us closer to this inner experience of God by turning our minds inward and seeking the stillness that rests with the divine.
Monthly Ascesis
Developing a practice of chanting prayers is a powerful and effective way to create stillness in our souls, allowing us to behold God's presence in our lives.
This month, begin chanting the short prayer below. Start with just a few repetitions, for example, 10-15. Then, gradually increase the number over the month. When you reach a higher number of chants, say 100-200 per day, your mind will begin to quiet down, and a sense of stillness in your mind and soul will increase. Following your chants, take a moment to rest in the newfound stillness and keep your mind clear of thoughts for as long as you can.
