Daily Prayer XI
Temperance, virtue of balanced grace,
In life's symphony, find thy rightful place.
Harmony in moderation, a guiding light,
Navigating the currents, both day and night.
-
Like a gentle river, in serene flow,
Temperance, in every aspect, does bestow.
In the banquet of existence, a measured feast,
Savoring the moments, from west to east.
-
Oh, Virtue, guide us with a steady hand,
In the dance of choices, where values stand.
Temperance, keeper of the middle way,
Lead us with wisdom, each and every day.
Daily Meditation
"A faithful person’s wealth is self-control”
—Sextus
Money is temporary; our bodies are temporary; and our possessions are temporary. It is only virtues that adorn our immortal soul. Self-control or temperance is the virtue that keeps the remembrance of our mortal impermanence and the identity with our soul central in our minds. This is true wealth.
Monthly Ascesis
Developing a practice of chanting prayers is a powerful and effective way to create stillness in our souls, allowing us to behold God's presence in our lives.
This month, begin chanting the short prayer below. Start with just a few repetitions, for example, 10-15. Then, gradually increase the number over the month. When you reach a higher number of chants, say 100-200 per day, your mind will begin to quiet down, and a sense of stillness in your mind and soul will increase. Following your chants, take a moment to rest in the newfound stillness and keep your mind clear of thoughts for as long as you can.
