Daily Prayer XIV
Supreme, paternal deity, omnipotent and just,
Source of all goodness, in thy divine mind we trust.
Inheritors of virtue, bestowed by heavenly kin,
Mortal and prone to fault, yet capable to mend again.
-
Through the crucible of mortality, our errors find correction,
Guided by thy offspring, architects of redemption.
Grant liberation from the sorrows of our missteps,
Through thy progeny, be our journey gently swept.
-
Approaching the blameless, possessing virtuous intent,
May we, in thy likeness, with noble minds be sent.
Thou, gentle and benevolent, lead us on the path refined,
Father divine, in thy kindness, our souls aligned.
Daily Meditation
"A truly good person subordinates his intellect to the power that governs the Universe, just as good citizens submit to the laws of the city.”
—Epictetus
God is the Father to both Gods and men. His divine laws order the Universe, and we, like good citizens, must follow His laws. We do this by always keeping our minds on God. Before we act, we should turn our minds toward Him and thus toward the highest good. Epictetus tells us we should ask ourselves these questions: How can I follow God in everything? How can I be content with divine dispensation? How can I become free?
Monthly Ascesis
Developing a practice of chanting prayers is a powerful and effective way to create stillness in our souls, allowing us to behold God's presence in our lives.
This month, begin chanting the short prayer below. Start with just a few repetitions, for example, 10-15. Then, gradually increase the number over the month. When you reach a higher number of chants, say 100-200 per day, your mind will begin to quiet down, and a sense of stillness in your mind and soul will increase. Following your chants, take a moment to rest in the newfound stillness and keep your mind clear of thoughts for as long as you can.
