Hymn for Ides
Jove, sovereign of the vast celestial dome,
On Ides' threshold, thy presence does loom.
In the mid-month's embrace, with thunderous might,
Thy benevolence and justice take flight.
-
On the Ides, when the moon is bright,
Jove, we honor, in the soft moonlight.
With each lunar phase, thy influence clear,
Guiding the months, with celestial cheer.
-
In the midst of calendars, thy mark profound,
Ides' moments with thy grace are crowned.
Jove, the keeper of cosmic order and sway,
In the month's heart, thy blessings convey.
-
On this Ides, as time's river flows,
Jove, in gratitude, our reverence shows.
In celestial dance, where planets align,
Thy majesty, eternal and divine.
Daily Meditation
"Prayer is a medium between our seeking and the gift of God.”
—Hierocles
Prayer ties our souls to the divine. In our lives, we seek to find happiness in wealth, health, status, and material things. But each of these is only temporary; we cannot be healthy or wealthy forever. Eventually, we give everything back to the Gods. Prayer is what yokes our soul to God and leads us to the gift of God, which is the only thing that can truly satisfy our longing and end our constant seeking. Through prayer, our seeking ends, and we rest in God.
Monthly Ascesis
Developing a practice of chanting prayers is a powerful and effective way to create stillness in our souls, allowing us to behold God's presence in our lives.
This month, begin chanting the short prayer below. Start with just a few repetitions, for example, 10-15. Then, gradually increase the number over the month. When you reach a higher number of chants, say 100-200 per day, your mind will begin to quiet down, and a sense of stillness in your mind and soul will increase. Following your chants, take a moment to rest in the newfound stillness and keep your mind clear of thoughts for as long as you can.
