Hymn for Ides Eve
O Jove, exalted lord of skies,
Thy power no mortal can despise.
With thunderbolt and eagle's flight,
Thou reignest in celestial light.
-
On this eve of Ides we call,
To thee, the mightiest of all.
Grant us wisdom, strength, and grace,
To face each challenge we embrace.
-
In thee, the fates their course align,
With justice pure and will divine.
Protect our homes, our sacred ties,
And bless the paths where virtue lies.
-
O Jove, supreme in heaven’s dome,
Guide our hearts, our spirits’ home.
To thee we lift our prayers, our voice,
In thy great power, we rejoice.
Daily Meditation
"But the universe must be truly perfect since it embraces everything, and nothing exists that is not in it. How, therefore, can it fail to possess that which is best? Nothing is better than intelligence and reason, so the universe cannot lack these things.”
—Cicero
The universe is the living image of God. The ancient term for the universe was cosmos, which means “good order.” The cosmos is the perfect and divine order of all things. It contains the physical material universe, the soul of all things, and is permeated by the divine mind. This is why the ancient hermeticists said that we humans are microcosms, which means little cosmos. Each human being is a small cosmos containing the three levels of reality: mind, body, and soul. The cosmos or universe is the grand image of God; we humans, as microcosms, are smaller images of God.
Monthly Ascesis
Developing a practice of chanting prayers is a powerful and effective way to create stillness in our souls, allowing us to behold God's presence in our lives.
This month, begin chanting the short prayer below. Start with just a few repetitions, for example, 10-15. Then, gradually increase the number over the month. When you reach a higher number of chants, say 100-200 per day, your mind will begin to quiet down, and a sense of stillness in your mind and soul will increase. Following your chants, take a moment to rest in the newfound stillness and keep your mind clear of thoughts for as long as you can.
